Walauwa or walawwa is the name given to a feudal/colonial manor house in Sri Lanka of a native headman. It also refers to the feudal social systems that existed during the colonial era. The owners of walawwa’s possessed large amounts of lands passed down through generations. Most of these walawwas were constructed years ago, and have beautiful colonial interiors with very interesting stories. Nowadays many such grand houses are converted to hotels or are open to the public.
